Dreams Realized – Our family’s cross country Road trip traveling Route 66.

It all began here in the Windy City – Chicago!

Walking between the skyscrapers, while the trains whizzed above our heads.

Day #1 Adventures included a hearty breakfast at the Goddess and the Baker. Hanging out at Millennium Park with the locals at The Bean! Heading over to the 2120 South Michigan Avenue (aka Blues Heaven Foundation). The home of Chess Records and the Blues. We were given a private tour of the legendary studio by no other that Willie Dixon’s grandson, Keith Dixon. Lauren and I then boarded Chicago’s First Lady for a ferry ride throughout the city’s rivers and waterways observing the city’s unique and legendary architecture / buildings. Evening included some Deep Dish Pizza at Giordano’s (make sure you arrive hungry!). As night fell, we walked along the downtown streets soaking up a perfect Chicago night.

Day #2 Adventures included some early morning photos at the Bean. We then headed over to Navy Pire, another Chicago must see! Not wanting the miss the opportunity to view Chicago from 103 stories in the air, we enjoyed the Willis Tower Sky Deck and a bird’s eye view of the metropolitan city, just like Ferris Buelller did during his “Day Off” (movie). Next up was a Sunday afternoon baseball game at the former Comiskey Park watching the Chi Sox defeat the Toronto Blue Jays! Next stop – Wrigley Filed! Unfortunately, the Cubbies were out of town, but we enjoyed beers with the locals at Murphy’s Bleachers who had some fun with our Phillie Phanatic (Philadelphia Phillies baseball mascot). Dinner at a cool Tiki Speakeasy called Three Dots & a Dash. We ventured over to Buddy Guy’s Legends blues bar. Around 10pm just about to leave, who shows up but the Blues master himself, Buddy Guy! Wow moment! What a way to end Night #2 in Chicago!

The next morning we enjoyed breakfast at Lou Mitchell’s Diner, enjoying a hearty breakfast and milk duds and oranges (restaurant tradition). A few more photos ops; Chicago mural and downtown landmarks and we were on our way to explore America on Route 66!

Thanks for the memories, Chicago!
