For two plus decades…this time of the year always meant the start of the winter Ski Season. Fortunately, I was able to take time off from work between Christmas and NYE which meant ‘hitting the slopes’ with family and friends for the first ski runs of the Season!

March 1998, found three generations of Kerns in Colorado for our second big ski trip Out West. Lauren was 6 years old and really starting to enjoy the sport....

After years of skiing “Blue Ice” of the Poconos and some fun trips to Vermont and New York, we were ready for some serious powder in the Rockies!

We visited friends, David and Dawn in Lakewood, CO just outside of Denver for the first part of the trip for some spring golf and tennis at Fox Hollow Country Club and then headed West on the I-70.

First stop was some cross-country skiing in Breckenridge, then Up Country to Vail/Beaver Creek.

Picture a white cereal bowl filled with hundreds of inches of fresh powder. Everyone lines up all around the edges of the bowl and then with a scream, from all directions shoot into the middle of the bowl.

Yeah….it’s pretty cool……

So glad that Lauren and I can still enjoy this lifetime sport together. Hope to follow in my parents footsteps and continue skiing well into my 70’s.

Meet ‘cha at Two Elk Lodge and then China and Siberia Bowls….here we come!
