Melbourne AdventuresFollowing the Equator @ 61“Be good and you will be lonesome.” wrote Mark Twain approaching his 60th birthday back home in Hannibal, Missouri in 1987.Nearly bankrupt from investing in the Paige Compositor, he prepared to set sail for a trip around the world (British Empire) to lecture in foreign countries to raise much needed money. In the process he would write the iconic travelogue entitled Following the Equator. His first stop was Fiji. So was mine! A young songwriter named Jimmy Buffett from Mobile, Alabama would read that novel. Inspired he would in turn write the tune “That’s What Living is to Me”. Somewhere in Southern New Jersey, an aging ‘young at heart’ 60 year old explorer, writer and photographer would read that novel as he and his daughter set sail for Polynesia and Melanesia (South Pacific) to celebrate their first 30 together as 2022 turned into 2023. Forever intertwined from that very first cold winter January morning in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1992. Unsure where our story would travel - ours would become a journey that neither parent nor child could have ever dreamed of living in real time. Welcome to our 30s and 60s! Lauren - Let’s write some more amazing travel chapters! Love ya, Peanut! “Your mother’s still the only other woman for me.” ~ Little Miss Magic.
