Grand Tetons & Jackson, Wyoming
Remember the Good Days
Tonight, Pendleton and I are sitting on the shallow beach of Signal Mountain in the shadow of the Tetons toasting a very good day.
It’s funny….when the dark days arrive and they will arrive, for some reason we tend to forget all the good days that came before.
Perhaps that’s just a defect in our manufactures warranty. A product recall notification that was never fully addressed by the company.
Sorry……I momentarily lost my train of thought as a rogue deer raced down the shoreline. Did I mention that a moose and elk were seen hanging around our lakeside cabin earlier today.
Where was I…..oh yeah.
We’ve all experienced so many incredible days of sunshine, laughter and love. Enough to fill thousands of cookie jars.
So today, I want to remember a good day.
Beginning with an early morning sunrise, exploring and photographing this amazing place on earth. Followed by a strenuous but fun four mile hike around Jenny Lake with my favorite girl. Concluding with a leisurely two hour meal dining on Elk tenderloin and a bottle of red in the Mural Room at Jackson Lake Lodge overlooking this majestic mountain range.
There WILL be a designated (pre-determined) date in our near future when we physically will not be able to do these things we do often and as a result unfortunately take for granted.
Thank God, today was not ‘that’ day!
“I think it's high time. We break out the good wine. Raise a glass and say. These still are the good old days.” ~ Sheryl Crow.

The Good, The Bad & The Cowboy
The Good
This breathtaking natural scenery I’ve witnessed first-hand has really rekindled my photography passion which has been dormant for quite awhile. Recently traveling and shooting with Lauren has helped as well. Been getting up early and exploring virgin areas most mornings on this trip. It’s been inspiring! Packed so much gear; hiking, cycling and kayaking, packing the Nikon was a hard pass. Maybe next trip?
Amazing early morning ~ 16 mile cycling trek in the shadows of Tetons. It was indescribable Nirvana. Marie said I was glowing when I returned to the cabin. Tons of wildlife. Even shot a video which is very rate for me.
The Ride: Early steep climb and then tons of s shaped curves and flats. Path was scenic. Biking alongside 13,000 foot tall mountains was……ahhhhhh!
The Bad
White caps on Jackson Lake postponed today’s planned kayaking activity. Marina was concerned with choppy water and high gusts. Really bummed since that’s Marie’s go-to outdoor thing. Rescheduled for tomorrow am.
The Cowboy
Cancelled paddle, freed up some time so we drove south ~ 35 miles to Jackson. I’m in love! Home to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The town and ski/party vibe distinctly reminded me of another old Cowboy/Ski town - Park City, Utah.
We bummed around town; shopped, watched the daily recreation of the 65th Annual Town Square Shoot-out which runs daily at 6pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Longest running Western shoot-out in the country. Western kitsch at its finest.
Then dinner at iconic Million Dollar Cowboy Bar (est. 1937). Landmark Wyoming watering-hole and must-do Jackson Hole experience. Over 21 only. No kids. Plenty of live music.
We got lucky and dined at the bar in actual horse saddles (chairs). Giddy up Pardner!
Did I ever mentioned that Marie and I met at the old Roy Rogers Restaurant on the old Marlton Circle?
Sporting my new “Western” shirt I picked up in Dubois, WY - I turned to Marie and said “Oh, yeah! You're gonna be my regular Saturday-night thing, baby!” She laughed at the Patrick Swayze line from Roadhouse (movie). Top 5 totally bad but can’t turn off movie!
We concluded the evening watching Saturday night’s sunset from Oxbow Bend.
Tomorrow morning we paddle and then head north on the 191 for a sit-down with John Dutton
It's time to put the chairs in the wagon. Church is letting out.
