Berlin Day #1
Willkommen in Berlin.
“Exploring Berlin by Foot”. This is our fourth country and fifth European travel destination.
One of our favorite things to do is to explore new travel destinations by foot. And today was no exception!
A self-guided tour of the key buildings and architecture was found near and around Museum Island. So named for multiple museums which inhabit the peninsular land mass surrounded by rivers within the Mitte District.
We enjoyed our first German beers at Augustiner Brau Munchen ~ 1328.
Lauren and I enjoyed the exhibition entitled Roads Not Taken at the Deutsches Historisches Museum. It takes at look key moments in Berlin’s volatile political and military history from various points of view.
Tonight, we dined at Nolle a nearly century old restaurant found underneath the Berlin train station. Take a step back in time to the Art Deco 1920s as jazz music plays against visual period era high fashion vibes. You absolutely must try the Berliner Meatballs.
We wandered next to the Van Gogh piano bar. And yes, we walked in just as Karl was playing Billy Joel’s Piano Man. Mixing with the locals, we enjoyed German and American tunes.
We walked across the street to enjoy drinks at the river deck bar - Standise Vertretung. Tasty beverages and outdoor fire heating lamps. We enjoyed people watching the good folks come and go as boats sailed by us on the River Spree.
Berlin Night #1 is in the books.
Walked 16k steps ~ 7.1 miles.
