Berlin Day #2
Amazing views of Berlin from both bikes and towers…
Lauren was a good sport today as she joined “Dad” biking through and around the key political and historical landmarks found in Berlin.
Fat Tire Bikes provided a fun and informative morning cycling ride around Berlin. Englishman Reese (German transplant) was the perfect tour guide mixing British humor and German historical content describing many of the key events of the past century from his unique perspective.
Another country cycled - thanks kiddo!
Biking is tiring so we enjoyed some doughnuts and tea at Doughnut Time, quirky and fun breakfast spot, before heading over to the iconic Berlin TV Tower that defines the Berlin skyline.
Berlin Television Tower (Fernsehturm) is a 368-meter-tall landmark in Berlin offering panoramic views from its observation deck and rotating restaurant, Sphere. As the tallest structure in Germany, we rested our weary bodies enjoying our celebratory drink as well as amazing views of the City.
Next we Ubered to the East Side Gallery. Here actual sections of the former Berlin Wall (starting in September 1990) were transformed into the world’s largest open air art gallery measuring over 1300 meters ~ 1 mile in length.
We walked the entire length enjoying artist interpretations of what The Berlin Wall meant to them. The most famous mural portraying a passionate kiss between former Soviet and GDR leaders, Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker.
Dinner was at the Käfer Restaurant. It was a unique dining experience at one of Berlin’s most historic locations: the Reichstag building. High above the city, we enjoyed Michelin Star “type food and service” at the world’s only public restaurant that resides in a parliamentary building.
Pro Tip: You will need your passport or another form of legal identification to enter this active governmental building. The nighttime views of Berlin after our seven course meal were nothing short of amazing.
Tonight’s pub crawl included; Monkey Bar (rooftop bar) overlooking the Berlin Zoo and Bellboy Bar exuding 1920s speakeasy vibes with plush sofas, visuals and period era soundtrack.
