Escaping the brutal snow and cold (single digit temperatures and negative wind chills) of the Delaware Valley before another Tax Season (#35) begins. Explored Christiansted, Frederiksted, Point Udall. Stayed at a lovely boutique cottage (#9) at Chenay Bay (aka Bungalows on the Bay). Discovered Sandy Point Wildlife National Refuge, the film location for the last scene of the 1994 movie – Shawshank Redemption starring Tim Robbins (Andy Dufesne) and Morgan Freeman (Red). Endless beach days at the resort. Early morning coastal/beach sunrise hike at Point Udall. Snorkeling excursion at Turtle Beach and Coral Reef Sanctuary at Buck Island National Monument. Coastal morning cycling trek in Frederiksted. Beautiful sunset dinner at Rhythms at Rainbow Beach. Wonderful meals at Hamilton’s and Savant in downtown Christiansted. Concluding with celebrating “Jump Up” (local celebration) on our last night with the locals, tourists and Moko Jumbies (stilt dancers/walkers). Quarterly celebration included island music, street food/vendors, fire dancers, steel pan musicians, ethnic food and handmade crafts. Quite an Island send off!
